There is nothing worse than rummaging through an overloaded wardrobe and struggling to find something to wear. Half the clothes don’t fit but you can’t stand the thought of parting with them. There are things you don’t wear because your style has evolved but the sentiment stops you from giving them away. And just why are you hanging onto that cheap costume jewellery? Just in case you find a need to wear it one day far away from now? If any of this sounds familiar, it is time to refresh your wardrobe.

Here are 5 simple steps to refresh your wardrobe and elevate your style.
- Remove anything that is too small for your current size. Yes, we get it, your weight will change and you will wear it again, right? Wrong. When and if that time comes around, you can invest in other items that suit you at the that time. But for now, let’s make room for new items of clothing that you can wear now.
- Part with anything that is no longer your style. Those cut off denim shorts looked good on you 8 years ago, but not so much now. If you don’t want to part with it because you invested so much money on the item, then sell it on a marketplace to get money in return. If it is sentimental, then gift it to someone in your life. At least you can see it being worn by someone else.
- Discard anything of low quality, has seen its day or is so old that the elastic has gone in it. With the exception of that old t-shirt that you can’t bare to sleep without – discard the rest. Stinky shoes, stained shirts, ripped dresses, handbags with holes in the lining, you name it, time for it to go.
- Start buying good quality wardrobe staples. Basic tees, neutral pants, good quality denim. Whatever you buy, ensure that it will mix and match with three other items in your wardrobe. Remember that the more you invest in quality items, the less need you will have to replace them.
- Organise your accessories. There is no need to have a million handbags. A few select colours that go with all your outfits is all you need. Store your jewellery, scarves, hats and bags where you can see them and they are accessible to you. Store everything where you can see it including your clothes.

Now your wardrobe is refreshed and your style will be elevated. You will take no time at all to choose your outfits and the rummaging days are gone.
